Fall Semester 2020

In the Fall Semester of 2020, I taught three classes,

Still Photography I, Two Dimensional Design and Commercial Photography.


Most of the art classes have been on-line this semester because of Covid.

My Still Photography I Class met in person because we need to have use of the darkroom equipment. We used black and white film, a basic camera and processed all of our film and prints by hand.

After all of the IPhone selfies and the glut of digital images on Instagram and other internet apps, is it refreshing to get back to the basics, taking 36 photographs at a time.

The first group are photographs by my students that were chosen for the Juried Student Show. It is a big compliment for the students, especially since my class is for beginners. Some of the photographs were also from the Summer Digital Class and the Alternative Photography Class.


The rest of the photographs are a small selection from the Still Photography I class.

Juried Student Exhibition 2020


For the Juried Show, each student can submit 3 artworks from any of their classes. 

The Juror was Ms. Samatha Fields, Artist and Professor at California State University, Northridge.

Summer School 2020

Introduction to Digital Photography Class Summer 2020 Summer school is very different than the regular school year. There are an assortment of students from Raritan Valley C.C. and other colleges taking advantage of a chance to continue learning in between sleeping, playing and swimming.  The students usually come in wearing shorts and sandals and are a bit more relaxed because it is Summer!  This year is slightly different because we are all on Zoom and have never met each other in person. I asked the students to send me photo so I could have a face to learn their name. During the Zoom class some students allow me to see them while others choose to use the black background with their name. Yesterday, a student asked me if he could eat during class and I said, "of course". Still Photography Class Spring 2020

Black and White Photography 2020 Our class,  Still Photography,  was interrupted by the virus. The students are now taking Digital photographs instead of using the darkroom to complete the course. The students are required to do an assortment  of assignments. Initially, they learn to use a manual film camera. Then they are required to create images that have meaning and work together as a series.  This is a small selection of their artworks. The images show how empty both Somerville and Princeton are as a result of the virus and the precautions me and my boyfriend now have to take as a result.
